The ABCA recently received an application to register a pup cloned from an ABCA-registered dog. After prolonged consideration, including input from the ABCA Health & Education Foundation (HEF), the Board of Directors voted at its May 4, 2026 meeting to accept registration of cloned dogs under specified conditions which are detailed here. It should be noted that registration of pups produced through cloning, as with registration of pups produced through Artificial Insemination (AI), should not be interpreted as indicating either approval or disapproval by the ABCA of these methods of reproduction. Whether to use these methods is a matter for individual dog owners to decide. By registering dogs produced through these methods, the ABCA simply certifies their genetic heritage.
